Management and Quality Assurance
Advising on the operation of care homes to achieve the highest quality of service for residents, and assuring the quality including completion of Provider Information Collection / Returns (PIR/PIC). We can assist in the following areas:
- Supporting owners in successfully challenging unreasonable demands for minimum staffing levels, particularly in areas where regulators have been well known for demanding higher staffing levels. The RFC Dependency System is widely used by both nursing and residential care homes providing a simple means of converting resident need into staffing levels. This system has been noted by the CQC in inspection reports as meeting their KLOE requirement for a system to determine appropriate staffing levels. This is an easily-completed and well-researched model for assessing resident needs and matching this to the staffing and skill mix needed, whether nursing or residential.
- Advising on the deployment of staff and the organisation of work to deliver a high quality service to residents.
Case Study: a nursing home was unable to meet all of the residentsí wishes on being washed and dressed in the morning, with some residents getting up just before lunch at 12:30pm. Dependency analysis showed there were sufficient staff. We worked with the manager to introduce a new allocation system. The result was that all residents are now up and dressed according to their wishes, and all prior to 11am, with the same staffing levels.
- Providing advice and training sessions on the Provider Information Collection / Returns required by the CQC, and advising on the content of supporting evidence files.
- Advising on meeting the requirements of Regulations and standards in relation to Quality Assurance, specifically full QA systems, resident feedback questionnaires, Annual Development Plans, and Improvement Plans.
